As a consortium of world leaders in IVF (in vitro fertilization), Premier IVF Network Practices strive to bring patients the most comprehensive information available about treatment options and outcomes. IVF is a major commitment and as such, it is important that patients ask the right questions before beginning treatment. The following questions should be asked of all IVF clinics:

What qualifications do your doctors hold?

Doctors who perform IVF procedures hold a wide range of qualifications. The most comprehensive is the title of “reproductive endocrinologist,” which involves three years of advanced reproductive training in addition to what is ordinarily required to be an obstetrician-gynecologist.

Is the IVF practice a member of the Society of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (SART)?

SART is an organization that represents more than 85% of all the U.S. based IVF
clinics. They help to establish, maintain and oversee the standards for IVF clinics.
U.S. consumers are fortunate to have an organization like SART as many countries
are completely in the dark when it comes to IVF success rates for public
consumption.

IVF centers apply for SART membership on a voluntary basis. Those that are
allowed to become members must comply with fertility standards and guidelines
established by SART including reporting of IVF cycle outcomes. The IVF centers
pay an annual fee. Be cautious of any IVF center that is not a SART member.

Some smaller IVF practices or solo IVF physicians may not have their own IVF
laboratory and have a professional relationship with another IVF center for use of its
laboratory facility for IVF procedures. In this case, you would look for the success
rate of the IVF laboratory facility as your physician’s IVF cycles will be part of its volume.

What costs are involved and what financial support is available?

IVF can be expensive so it is critical to know how patients will be billed and whether insurance will cover all or a portion of treatment. In addition, financial options such as Premier IVF’s 100% Refund Program can ease the financial burden for patients without insurance coverage and provide peace of mind if IVF is not successful.
